Our Story

Infectious Disease Associates of Orange County (IDAOC) was founded in 2011, but has been present in various iterations since the mid 1990's, when the founder of the group, Dr. Michael Finney, MD, FACP, FAAP, set up a private practice adult infectious diseases practice in central and south Orange County.  Dr. Finney worked with a number of different physicians through the years and built up his practice to become one of the premier groups in the area.  With a thriving inpatient business, the outpatient demands eventually increased, and the prior office in Fountain Valley was relocated to Garden Grove in 2004.  It was there that IDAOC was formed, after the group eventually increased in size to meet the busy demands of the practice.  Eventually, in 2013, the group made a strategic decision to relocate the office to Santa Ana, where it is situated more centrally to the various acute care hospitals where the group has privileges.  In November 2017, due to rising overhead costs, the group changed the office to a timeshare, whereby office space is shared with a group of surgeons from Orange County Global Medical Center. Over the years, despite the changes in staff, physicians, and locations, the one constant is the goal of excellent and compassionate patient care.

Patient Care

The physicians and nurse practitioners of IDAOC currently see patients across five acute care hospitals: Chapman Global Medical Center, Orange County Global Medical Center, Hoag Hospital Irvine, Hoag Orthopedic Institute, and Foothill Regional Medical Center. They also hold privileges at two long term acute care centers (LTAC), Kindred Hospital Westminster and Kindred Hospital Santa Ana, where care continues from the acute inpatient setting.   In addition to clinical care, the providers of IDAOC are also involved in administrative duties as directors of infection control and antibiotic stewardship at the various hospitals in which they practice.

Appointments

In person appointments are available most Monday and Wednesday afternoons, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Telemedicine visits are also available during those times, as well as other days on a case by case basis. Due to the increased volume of calls and lack of in-person office staff on the non clinic days, your call may not be answered immediately. However, we will attempt to answer all messages left with the answering service within 24 hours. Please leave a clear and detailed message (with your name, date of birth, and if applicable, hospital at which you were hospitalized) if you would like a return phone call. Another option to contact us is via a text message to our office phone number (see patient engagement above). As with a voicemail, please leave a clear and detailed messaage including name and date of birth of the patient, and which hospital the patient was last evaluated, if applicable. You can also reach us via the blue chat bubble down below!

Patients are seen by appointment and referral only—walk-in visits are not accepted. Cancellations require a 24 hour notification or a fee may be assessed.  If a patient requires a more urgent appointment than what is available, the referring provider should contact the office and speak to one of the physicians directly.
